Outreach and education help drive our mission here at OPEN, with our current initiatives aimed at broadening understanding of the complexity of opioid dependency and improving the way institutions and communities respond.

OPEN + Michigan Emergency Department Improvement Collaborative (MEDIC)

Together, OPEN and MEDIC are working to reduce opioid-related morbidity and mortality through naloxone distribution in emergency departments across the state.

Painless: The Opioid Musical

Painless: The Opioid Musical is a project developed by OPEN, the CDC, and the University of Michigan’s Precision Health and School of Music, Theatre & Dance.

Stigma

OPEN is partnering with national experts and providers across the state to address stigma around substance abuse disorder in healthcare settings.

Transitions of Care

As rates of substance use disorders increase in the United States, there are profound implications for pain management and recovery. We strive to educate providers on effective ways to help patients transition after surgery and other medical procedures.
