Youth Peer Recovery Coach Training (Pre-Approval Required)

The Michigan Youth Peer Recovery Coach curriculum was developed to expand access to SUD treatment services for adolescents under 18 by offering a continuum of care in the home community. Recovery coaches have lived experience with substance use recovery and play a vital role in mentoring peers and promoting sustained growth through recovery. Eligible individuals may participate in the 40-hour, 5-day Youth Recovery Coach Training through the SOM and earn their certification upon the completion of training.

Training Date(s): July 6, 7, 10, 11, 12
Training Time: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day

OBJECTIVES:
  1. Participants will be able to identify 3 strategies for building rapport and establishing connections with youth.
  2. Participants will be able to discuss the connection between resiliency and recovery.
  3. Participants will be able to define recovery.
  4. Participants will be able to discuss the connection between language and stigma, and recovery.
  5. Participants will be able to identify the components of strength-based peer services.
  6. Participants will be able to demonstrate their ability to share their own recovery story with others.
  7. Participants will be able to describe the process of trauma and typical responses to trauma.
  8. Participants will be able to identify 3 strategies for self-care.
  9. Participants will be able to discuss the concepts and safety and ethics in peer services.
  10. Participants will be able to describe the importance of cultural awareness in peer services.
