Peer Educator Coordinator

Katrina Suarez, CPRC, attended the MDHHS Certified Peer Recovery Coach training back in 2020 and has been in long term recovery for over 9 years as of November 2023. She has worked in various recovery settings as a Peer Recovery coach such as the Opioid Home health with Hegira health as well as Relapse Prevention program putting on multiple groups a day in their inpatient treatment facility Oakdale. She then went on to be a Youth Peer Program Manager for Detroit Recovery Project and once that programming was in place went on being certified in HIV and Hep-C testing and counseling and working for their needle exchange program. She most recently was the Peer Educator Coordinator for the Michigan Opioid Collaborative (MOC) within the University of Michigan and hosted her own Stigma webinars as well as assisted the BHC team to outreach to healthcare clinics and subsequently present on MOC’s availability to support providers and healthcare professionals around stigma, and other topics related to addiction with the intent to improve and increase access for patients with substance use disorders.
