Dominic Alessio
Research Assistant
Dominic is a medical student at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI and is currently spending a one-year dedicated research period with Michigan OPEN and its affiliated initiatives. With a background in surgical pathology, his interests have moved from laboratory science to a more clinical focus over the years and he is particularly invested in surgical outcomes research, especially in relation to substance use disorders. Outside of work or school, Dominic enjoys playing cello (including as a member of the Detroit Medical Orchestra for the last six seasons), discovering new cuisine and getting outdoors to enjoy nature whenever his schedule allows.
