Dr. Jennifer Waljee featured as one of four doctors in Healthline interview

Mar 9, 2018

Jennifer Waljee, one of Michigan OPEN’s co-directors, was featured as one of four doctors who gave their insight on how to reduce opioid prescriptions in a healthline interview this March. She provided her ideas for how surgeons can reduce the amount of opioids are prescribed after surgery, by highlighting some of Michigan OPEN’s research.

“I think taking very simple measures — such as asking patients about their preferences for pain control after surgery and their prior experiences with surgery — can reduce the prescribing of opioids,” said Waljee.

She also offers some non-opioid approaches to pain management such as resilience exercises, mindfulness, and breathing, as well as over-the-counter medicines such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen.
