Youth Peer Recovery Coach Training (Pre-Approval Required)

The Michigan Youth Peer Recovery Coach curriculum was developed to expand access to SUD treatment services for adolescents under 18 by offering a continuum of care in the home community. Recovery coaches have lived experience with substance use recovery and play a vital role in mentoring peers and promoting sustained growth through recovery. Eligible individuals may participate in the 40-hour, 5-day Youth Recovery Coach Training through the SOM and earn their certification upon the completion of training.

Training Time: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day

OBJECTIVES:
- Participants will be able to identify 3 strategies for building rapport and establishing connections with youth.
- Participants will be able to discuss the connection between resiliency and recovery.
- Participants will be able to define recovery.
- Participants will be able to discuss the connection between language and stigma, and recovery.
- Participants will be able to identify the components of strength-based peer services.
- Participants will be able to demonstrate their ability to share their own recovery story with others.
- Participants will be able to describe the process of trauma and typical responses to trauma.
- Participants will be able to identify 3 strategies for self-care.
- Participants will be able to discuss the concepts and safety and ethics in peer services.
- Participants will be able to describe the importance of cultural awareness in peer services.
