Harm Reduction

Hands holding a heart and various harm reduction medical supplies.

Harm reduction is a strategy to support people who use drugs (PWUD) by focusing on safety and overdose prevention rather than judgment. Not all PWUD are ready to stop drug use or enter into treatment, so it is important to meet people where they are and promote safer practices when possible.

Harm reduction offers a compassionate, person-centered approach to public health and individual well-being by providing access to naloxone, overdose prevention education, safe use supplies, proper wound care, and safe syringes.

OPEN’s harm reduction educational materials are created in collaboration with people with lived experience.
