Brian R. Hallstrom, MD, FAOA
Dr. Hallstrom is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan Hospital and Health Systems. He attended medical school at the Boston University School of Medicine and finished Magna cum Laude. During his studies, Dr. Hallstrom earned the Alpha Omega Alpha honors and the Richard J. Elkort Memorial Award. Following medical school, he completed his orthopaedic surgery internship and residency at the University of Michigan and then completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at Harvard University and the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. After the completion of his fellowship, Dr. Hallstrom joined private practice at Orthopaedic Surgery Associates associated with St. Joseph Hospital. In October 2008, he joined the faculty at the University of Michigan Hospital and Health Systems in the Division of Adult Lower Extremity Reconstruction.
His research interests include joint replacement (arthroplasty) of the hip and knee, treatment of arthritis and avascular necrosis, joint implant quality registries and medical quality improvement. He is currently heading the Michigan Arthroplasty Registry, Collaborative Quality Initiative (MARCQI). Dr. Hallstrom is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is an active member in multiple societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
