Chris Frank, MD, Ph.D

On-Call Provider

Dr. Frank earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and graduated from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with an M.D. and a Ph.D. in molecular biology. He completed his family medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin in a specialized program designed to prepare family physicians to work in rural communities. Prior to joining the U-M Department of Family Medicine, he worked for 8 years as a full-scope family physician in a Health Professional Shortage Area in Washington State, and as the health officer/medical director of a local health department. In Washington he taught medical students and residents in the University of Washington Department of Family Medicine, chaired a broad coalition that developed a regional response to the opioid crisis, and served on the Washington State Board of Health. He returned to U-M in 2019. His clinical interests include comprehensive primary care, obstetrics, most common office procedures, and the treatment and prevention of substance use disorders. He is an educator and clinical consultant for the Michigan Opioid Collaborative, and a faculty educator for the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Outside of work he enjoys coaching youth sports, exploring the outdoors with his children, trail running, digging in the garden, and cooking for friends and family.
