What to Expect During an OPEN Warmline Telehealth Visit

A person calling the OPEN Warmline will be connected to a Warmline Navigator. After a quick registration, callers will talk with a medical provider via telehealth that same day to determine the best plan for the caller’s needs. If a prescription is needed, the provider can prescribe buprenorphine. After the visit, the Warmline team will check-in with the caller to ensure they received the medication from the pharmacy, and it is working as intended. Warmline Navigators will also assist the caller in finding a local long-term treatment provider and if desired, connected to a peer recovery coach.

*If at any point, the OPEN Warmline cannot meet a patient’s care needs, Warmline staff will link the patient to a provider that can provide the needed medical or substance use service.

OPEN Warmline Care Model

  • We prioritize rapid, same-day access to medication without judgment or additional requirements such as behavioral healthcare
  • We embrace a harm reduction approach. We do not require abstinence and align with a patient’s goals around their substance use.
  • We want to know if medication isn’t working, how cravings and use are going. We will not assume patients are “drug seeking” if they express that their dose isn’t effective
  • We do not view return to substance use as a failure or a reason to stop treatment, but as a chance to reassess patient’s goals and ensure we are supporting them as best we can
  • Patients are ALWAYS welcome back

What do I Need?

  • You must be over the age of 18 and located in Michigan at the time of receiving Warmline services
  • A phone to talk to the Warmline Care Navigator  and for a quick appointment with a provider who can prescribe buprenorphine
  • If you have insurance, that is great! If you do not have insurance we are still happy to see you free of cost and will help you with costs of your medication
  • Access to internet to complete a consent form

Meet the Team

Eliza Hutchinson, MD, Warmline Physician Director
I am enamored with the process of melding my medical knowledge with each patient’s expertise of their own bodies and lived experience. Through relationship-based work, we can together design the best plan for addressing medical issues as well as the social influences that shape health. Beyond the exam room, I also see my role as an advocate for individual and community health and social justice.
Daniel Oram, MD, Warmline Provider
My goal is to listen intently during each visit, bringing with me the broad skill set of family medicine. In turn, patients teach me about themselves and their communities, so that we can work as a team toward overall health and wellness.
Danielle DuBois, PA-C, Warmline Provider
I have a background in primary care and oncology. I work to provide high-quality, culturally competent and evidence-based care to patients. I hope to work together to achieve the best patient outcomes possible through shared decision making at every visit.
Amanda Hartwell, FNP, Warmline Provider
What drives me as a provider is getting to know my patients’ stories, both their struggles and their strengths, and becoming a partner in helping them to achieve their health goals. I love to educate and motivate patients to reach the best possible health that they can. It is an honor and a privilege to serve this community alongside my stellar colleagues.
Melissa DeMarse, LPC, CAADC, Warmline Care Navigator

My focus is on creating a safe, supportive space where people feel seen and heard as we partner together toward their health goals.
Allison Gorine, LMSW, Warmline Care Navigator
Allison is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LMSW) and a proud graduate of the University of Michigan School of Social Work. She has over 10 years of experience working in mental health settings and providing direct services to individuals with substance use disorders. Her own recovery from opioid use disorder and lived experience inspire her deep commitment to harm reduction interventions.
Madison Hille, LMSW, CAADC, Warmline Care Navigator
Madison is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and has her Advanced Alcohol and Drug Certification (CAADC). Madison earned her Masters in Social Work and Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies (CADAS) from Wayne State University. With previous experience in an adult Outpatient and Opioid Treatment Program (OTP), Madison is skilled in supporting individuals receiving Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) and helping individuals navigate recovery with evidence-based, person-centered care. Madison is passionate about providing compassionate support and empowering individuals on their path of recovery.
Ciara Gray-Walker, Nurse Care Manager
Dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse helping people reclaim their lives and feel hopeful again is the most rewarding part of what I do. Every small win matters. I believe in meeting people where they are, offering kindness, education, and encouragement every step of the way. Recovery is hard—but no one has to do it alone.
Thomas Jones, Peer Recovery Coach
Recovery means many things. I do this work to support people interested in discovering what recovery means to them, free from agenda or judgement.

Helpful Definitions

Buprenorphine

Buprenorphine, also referred to as “bupe” or its brand name Suboxone, is an FDA approved medication that has been proven to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings in people who use opioids. Buprenorphine has also been proven to reduce the risk of overdose deaths. Buprenorphine is safe to use for short-term treatment or long-treatment and is used by some people for years or the rest of their lives.

Buprenorphine is available as an oral medication that is taken daily, or available as a long-acting injectable medication that can be received monthly. The Warmline is only able to prescribe oral medication but can connect patients to in-person treatment if they are interested in treatment with long-acting injectable buprenorphine.
