Apply today for free safe storage locking pill bottles and safe disposal Deterra deactivation pouches to distribute via your organization. OPEN will purchase the products and ship them directly to you, our approved community partners.

SAFE Storage + Disposal Kits

Locking Pill Bottles:

  • Pre-Programmed Code: Each vial comes with a unique 4-digit code for secure locking and unlocking.
  • Size and Privacy: The large vials are 2” in diameter and 5.4” tall, designed to typically fit an entire prescription bottle inside, which helps maintain privacy by keeping the prescription label hidden within.

Deterra Deactivation Pouches:

  • Inclusion: Each locking pill bottle includes a small Deterra medication pouch.
  • Size: The pouches measure 4″ x 6″. 
  • Usage: When ready to dispose of unused medication, insert the medication into the pouch, add warm water to activate the deactivation process, and dispose of the pouch in a regular garbage bin. For more detailed instructions on how to use the pouch, watch this tutorial video. 

OPEN partners with Safe Rx to provide locking pill bottles with Deterra for an easy and safe medication storage and disposal option.

Award Opportunity- A safe storage + disposal kit contains a locking pill bottle and a Deterra medication deactivation pouch. Each case contains 50 kits. Up to 5 cases can be requested.
Eligibility Requirements- Organizations must be based in Michigan.
- Two staff contacts per organization.
- Commitment to completion of a brief program evaluation survey.
Reporting Requirements- Completion of a 3-month follow-up survey
Notification of Award- OPEN will be reviewing applications on a quarterly basis. See the schedule below to learn more about the application quarters and award notification dates.
- The application for this program will remain open throughout the year. Awards will be communicated by email based on the quarter in which the application was submitted.

Q: Do we have to distribute all of the storage + disposal products before submitting the program evaluation survey?

A: No. We hope that the products get used promptly but it is not required to complete distribution by the end of the project period.
