Opioid Overdoses in Michigan

In 2018, there were more deaths from drug overdoses than car crashes in Michigan.

While the overall number of opioid overdoses resulting in death in Michigan decreased from 2017 to 2019, we saw an increase during 2020 (2,339 deaths) and 2021 (2,504 deaths). Michigan is currently the state with the 12th highest number of opioid overdose deaths, suggesting that more work needs to be done.
